"Om telolet om."
Famous DJs like Zedd, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, Marshmello, and DJ Snake are tweeting about it. Some even came up with a mix featuring om telolet om!
All of this makes you wonder even harder! What is it? Where does it come from? What does it mean? Why has it gone viral? Well, joining the netizen crowd, we too, will talk about om telolet om.
Apparently this whole craze started from children and youngsters of Ngabul, Jepara. Jepara is a small city located in Central Java, Indonesia. The children like to shout at passing inter-province buses, "Om telolet om!", which literally means "Sir, honk, sir!"
Literally speaking, om means uncle and telolet is not really how you say honk in Indonesian, but it's more of a sound interpretation of how honk sounds, especially buses' honk. Common cars' honk sound tin-tin to us (you can thank me later).
So how has it gone viral? Through a video! A Facebook user uploaded the scene and many hearts were warmed by children's reaction when the bus drivers honked. Many comments said things like "It doesn't take much money to be happy, just wait for a bus and ask them to honk."
